Environment & Consultation Planner
I am an Environment and Consultation Planner with experience working in sustainable development, environmental assessment, and community resilience strategies. I have a Bachelor of International Development (Honours) from Waterloo University, a Master of Environmental Assessment from Concordia University, and am pursuing a Certificate in Food Security at the Toronto Metropolitan University. I have been working at Odonaterra since the beginning of 2020 and see consulting as a collaborative process where relationship building and continuous learning are essential for resilient strategies in an ever-changing world.
During my time with Odonaterra, I have worked on several socio-economic and cultural baseline studies and impact assessments for wind energy, dam infrastructure, and mining projects in eastern Canada. Some of my recent involvements include a socio-economic and Indigenous Knowledge and land use baseline study in northern Ontario, and an Indigenous-led social and Indigenous rights assessment in the James Bay area.
Some of my other work with clients includes incorporating Indigenous Knowledge into a climate change adaptation report and supporting the development of indigenized plans and laws for First Nations, including an Environmental Management Plan, Land Use Plan, and an Environmental Assessment Law.
Prior to joining Odonaterra, I worked in northern Senegal in communications and capacity development, where I collaborated with rural communities to find sustainable development solutions. Here, I grew my love for working with people, and strengthened my understanding of the value of building relationships and trust with clients. I continue to bring these lessons with me to my current work where I support the community-led process and provide tools to strengthen community voices and self-determination.
I have mapping experience with google maps, ArcGIS, QGIS and Epicollect5. I also have experience in ethnobotany, with a certificate in both herbalism and permaculture.
I am fluent in English, French, German and Czech. One of my passions is designing/supporting circular, regenerative ecosystems. In my spare time I am always learning new ways to contribute to regeneration of the land, increasing biodiversity, and learning from Indigenous and non-Indigenous knowledge holders on how to leave the land better than I found it.
I acknowledge that I am currently living on the traditional and unceded territory of the Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin), Anishinabewaki and the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) peoples, who have been the stewards of these lands, rivers, and mountains since time immemorial, and continue to be so today.
As a first generation Canadian, I am humbled to learn, discuss and appreciate where I am living today, and hope to continue having important conversations about the complex history of colonization, perseverance, and the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.
