What impacts are expected and how will they be addressed?

Community-Led and Rights-Based Impact Assessment

Through impact assessment, we support the identification of potential impacts on the natural and human environment and the development of related mitigation, enhancement, or accommodation measures.

Our services include supporting clients to:

  • Develop social and environmental impact assessment statements.

  • Develop community-based project reviews and participate effectively in regulatory approvals.

  • Create community-based significance rating systems to quantify potential impacts related to time, space, cost/benefit, and likelihood factors.

  • Understand impact assessment processes through training and guidance documents.

Our approach empowers communities to:

  • Engage and consult community members on the potential human environmental impacts of proposed development projects.

  • Classify impacts as positive or negative, or as unavoidable and requiring accommodation.

  • Negotiate agreements to compensate and accommodate unforeseen or unavoidable impacts.

The result is that project proponents and government agencies:

  • Complete holistic, integrated impact assessments.

  • Work collaboratively and effectively with Indigenous groups in preparing impact assessments.

  • Identify with communities the most desired and appropriate mitigation or enhancement measures to address impacts on health, socio-economic, cultural and rights impacts.

  • Identify accommodation requirements.
